Westgate, a stunning new development bringing 800,000 sq ft. of shopping, leisure and dining to Oxford, anchored by a flagship John Lewis store.
The Westgate Alliance, a joint venture between Land Securities and The Crown Estate are developing a stunning new retail destination which will house over 100 new retailers & restaurants and a boutique cinema providing a modern showcase for national and international brands to gain prominence in the most enviable city in the UK. The architecture of the transformed Westgate will embrace the character of the city in a series of buildings which a team of specialist architects are designing to create a truly unique and distinctive environment, and respond to the unfulfilled retail potential of Oxford.
Oxford has a catchment of 430,000 people, and is one of the most affluent in the UK with an annual spend of over £4bn and a higher representation across a significant number of customer groups including wealthy executives and prosperous professionals. 40 million customers experience Oxford every year (Acorn 2012). The city is a tourist destination with 9 million annual day visitors and 1 million staying visitors, £150 million a year is generated from tourism alone. Oxford houses circa 32,000 students from Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University.
The new Westgate will include a major redevelopment of the existing Westgate centre which will form the main entrance into the scheme leading through to four new buildings culminating in the flagship John Lewis. Construction started in the spring of 2015 and is scheduled to complete in Autumn 2017, in time for Christmas.
The most anticipated scheme in the UK, Westgate will provide a complete shopping, leisure and dining experience, all in one place. It will feature a rooftop dining experience, unseen before in Oxford - providing eye-level views across the rooftops of the city.
