Princesshay, Exeter

Princesshay is an award winning shopping destination featuring over 60 shops set in a series of interconnecting open streets and squares to link old with new. An impressive line up of retailers include Debenhams, Next, River Island, New Look, Top Shop, All Saints, Cult and Apple with a mix of dining including Carluccio’s, Wagamama, Strada, Nandos and Café Rouge.

In late 2012 a small full price format 110,000 sq ft John Lewis, the first of its kind, opened on a neighbouring Land Securities site which has further added to the strong retail offer.

Respecting the city’s status as an historic destination, Princesshay was designed through an extraordinary collaboration between three different teams of internationally acclaimed architects and designers. Opened in 2007, it has brought energy and focus, revitalising the city’s Cathedral Quarter to give medieval structures and relics new prominence and is acknowledged as a model of best practice in city centre urban regeneration.

The excellent retail mix at the centre attracts affluent ACORN groups including Wealthy Executives and Affluent Greys as well as the younger groups of Aspiring Singles and Starting Out.

Exeter is the capital of the south west and, as the largest retail centre in the region, it has a large catchment, with shoppers living in the region being attracted from long distances for the retail mix that is on offer.

There is a thriving student population in the city with the University of Exeter housing approximately 17,000 students. The city is also home to some key national businesses with offices of EDF Energy and British Telecom and the home of the Met Office.
