Over 83,500 people flocked to Almondvale Shopping Centre's action packed Tomorrow's Word event.

Livingston's Tomorrow's World Event

The Almondvale Shopping Centre held an action packed Tomorrow’s World event on Sat 13th to Tue 16th September, which proved hugely popular with all ages and once again raised much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Visitors to the centre enjoyed viewing the famous ‘DeLorean’ car from the Hollywood film trilogy Back to the Future as well as a classic James Bond car, the Aston Martin DB6, which were positioned at the heart of the shopping centre.

The ‘DeLorean’, recognisable due to its gull-wing doors and stainless steel bodywork, in true movie style, came complete with the Flux Capacitor and time travel machine. In addition, shoppers were impressed with the fact that the 007 car on show was also driven by Bond girl Shirley Eaton at the 40th anniversary celebrations of Gold Finger in Edinburgh in 2004.

Jennifer Bruce, Marketing Manager at Almondvale Shopping Centre said: “This event has delighted men and women, and people young and old – there has been something for everyone.

“Hundreds of shoppers relished the rare opportunity to have their photo taken next to the cars, which have gained cult status following their starring roles in movie favourites. Plus the old fashioned games, shiny futuristic robots and exhibitions ensured a variety of entertainment on offer across the four day event.”

Shoppers enthusiastically queued for their turn on games such as a giant Scalextric, Saga Rally and Pacman, as well as showed off their gaming skills on the Nintendo Wii. One lucky visitor also walked away with their very own games console after winning the extremely popular competition.

Exhibitions of the much loved comic book, The Beano, which this year celebrates its 70th anniversary and West Lothian Museum’s history of Livingston, gained appeal from the older generation, as children gathered round hi-tech duo robots Primo and Junior who added a truly futuristic element to the event.

Jennifer continues: “The Tomorrow’s World event was a real crowd pleaser. The event was designed to provide fun, free entertainment for all the family over the September break and everyone seemed to have great fun. It also helped us raise money for the centre’s chosen charity Marie Curie Cancer Care.”

Additional activities included workshops for inventors of the future courtesy of Edinburgh-based creative re-use project Bits ‘n’ Bobs and a free retro sweet giveaway.
